Prion Laboratory was established in 2002 at the Institute of Immunology and Microbiology (currently Institute of Medical Microbiology), 1st Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Prague. Its founder doc. Ing. Karel Holada, Ph.D. holds the position of Laboratory Head since then.
Dr. Holada has more than 20 years' experience in prion research field. He became interested in prions during his 5-years' postdoctoral fellowship in Laboratory of Cellular Hematology, Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, FDA, Bethesda, USA. After his return to Prague he continued with prion research in his newly established laboratory. He is also supervising undergraduate and graduate students and is involved in other teaching activities at the 1st Faculty of Medicine. Currently two post-doc researchers (Tibor Moško and Soňa Baranová) and two PhD students (Zdeňka Bačkovská Hanusová and Zuzana Fremuntová) are working in the Prion Laboratory. Technical and administrative matters are handled by Alena Šteflová Lisáková, Blanka Tahtahová and Krystyna Starychenko.
